Many private trusts and companies provide financial assistance or grant loans to talented students to complete their desired education. Indian government’s assistance to students often falls short due to limited government resources. The world renowned TATA and Birla group of companies are few of the oldest names that have been providing scholarships to deserving students even before the Indian independence. Now, there is a growing consensus among government and private companies that CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds should be mostly diverted to education sector. For instance, Mahindra Group provides a number of scholarships through its CSR fund. There are a number of scholarship schemes available and students can exploit these schemes to realize their dream.  The list has been created with the view of ‘broad impact’ and ‘effectiveness’ of the scholarships.

  1. Indian Oil Educational Scholarship Scheme

Indian Oil is one of the largest companies in India and it is a part of ‘nine gems’ consisting of nine best public companies which include SAIL, BHEL, GAIL, etc. It offers 2600 scholarships every year to students pursuing 10+, ITI, Engineering, MBA and MBBS. It provides monthly stipend to deserving talented students, for instance, an ITI student can get INR 1000 per month for 2 years. The duration for stipend is higher for engineering students – INR 3000 per month for 4 years.

  1. Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) Scholarship for SC/ST

ONGC is among the most valuable companies and it has 80% market share in crude oil and natural gas exploration. There are total 500 scholarships available under this program for talented SC/ST students. It offers INR 4000 per month to students studying Engineering, Geophysics/Geology, MBBS and MBA.

  1. Ratan Tata Trust Awards Scholarship

Tata Group is one of the oldest companies in India and it has a continuous history of philanthropy. It has earned a respect from Indian citizens because of its assistance given to the neediest. This program encourages meritorious students to achieve academic excellence. This scholarship covers only tuition fees of the undergraduate and graduate courses, other expenses such as hotel fees are not covered under this. The merit scholarship provides assistance up to INR 6 lakh in two instalments.

  1. OP Jindal Engineering and Management Scholarships (OPJEMS) 

OPJEMS is run by O.P. Jindal Charitable Trust with the objective of promoting academic and leadership excellence in the fields of engineering and management. The selection committee gives a special regard to those students who have entrepreneur and leadership skill. OPJEMS is offered to total 100 students chosen from 40 premiere institutions and colleges of India. According to the program, a management student will receive INR 1, 25,000 per year and INR 65,000 for an engineering student.

  1. Dhirubhai Ambani Scholarship

This scholarship has been providing financial assistance to needy students to all over India since 1996. It is a targeted program where scholarship is awarded to meritorious students based on the list of provided by State/CBSE board. Till now, more than 10,000 students have benefitted from.
