NTPC to set up 50 MW Solar Power Project Plants: Andaman and Nicobar

NTPC has signed MoU with Andaman & Nicobar Administration & MNRE in New Delhi to set up Solar Power projects of 50 MW capacity with Battery Energy Storage System at different locations in Port Blair in Andaman & Nicobar Islands as part of its Green Commitment to Government of India.

  • The power generated from these solar plants shall contribute towards increased Renewable Energy Deployment and Greening of A&N islands.
  • The size of the storage solar power plants will open a new avenue for bringing 24×7 power supply to remote locations.
  • The storage solar power plant comes in the wake of Petronet LNG’s ongoing discussions with the Andaman administration for a floating facility to import liquid gas for converting generators to the less-polluting fuel.
  • The ministry of new and renewable energy will meet 40% of the cost through grant meant for special areas.
