Union Cabinet approves amendments to the The Land Acquisition Ordinance

News

  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has given its approval to amend the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Ordinance, 2015.
  • The changes will facilitate farmers to get better compensation and rehabilitation and resettlement benefits in lieu of land compulsorily acquired by the appropriate Government.

Changes 

  • To expedite the process of land acquisition for strategic and development activities such as national security or defense of India such projects are exempted from the “Consent” provisions.
  • The bill has been amended to replace the term “private company” with “private entity” there by including forms of companies like proprietorship, partnership and NGO’s.
