Supreme Court directs states to install CCTV cameras in all prisons

News:

  • The Supreme Court on Friday directed all prisons to install CCTV cameras within a year or two to deter human rights abuse.
  • A bench comprising Justice TS Thakur and Justice R Banumathi ruled that two female cops should be compulsorily posted in every police station to deal with women who are accused or suspects.
  • The bench also asked all states, which do not have State Human Rights Commissions yet to have them in place within three months.
  • Besides this, the NHRC and all the SHRCs, which are functioning in the country must fill up the vacant posts of chairpersons and members within a stipulated period of 3 months.
