UP: Home For Beggars Scheme

Beggary Act came into existence in year 1975 for banning beggary as social malpractice. Beggary is the result of poverty and beggary act was also initiated for reducing poverty. Under this act, Uttar Pradesh Govt. has came up with scheme, which include providing accommodation for beggars as beggar’s home or residential institution in various important cities and tourist places of UP for the rehabilitation and counseling of beggars.

Eligibility:

Any individual who is involved in begging activities and which is the only source of income for him/her.

Benefits:

  • Beggar’s Homes in Varanasi, Mathura, Agra, Faizabad, Allahabad, Lucknow and Kanpur for male beggars.
  • Separate Beggar’s home in Faizabad for female beggars.
  • At Beggar’s home or residential institutions various facilities are provided free-of-cost viz. boarding, lodging, food, medical care, recreation, health, vocational training, counseling etc. to wean beggars away from the habit of begging.
