Schemes for Women Welfare: Uttarakhand

Uttarakhand Government keeps launching schemes for welfare of women. The major schemes and their details are enlisted below:

  1. Sabala Yojana:
  • For development and empowerment of adolescent girls in the age of 11-18 years, Child Development Project Sabala Yojana in Haridwar, Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Nainital districts have been implemented.
  • In Anganwadi centres:
    • one Sakhi and two Sahelis will be selected
    • Group of these adolescent girls will be given training
    • Activities like distribution of IFA, gaining knowledge through ‘Kishori Kit’ and celebration of ‘Kishori Day’ will be organised.
    • Supplementary Nutrition for feeding to the girls in age 11-18 years will be provided.
  1. Matritva Sahayog Yojana:
  • In this scheme, expectant and nursing women are provided an amount of Rs. 4,000/- on fulfilling the norms of vaccination, IFA tablet consumption, pre and post-delivery check-up, breast-feeding, vaccination of children etc.
  • On successfully completing all the norms by the beneficiaries, an additional honorarium of Rs.200/- to Anganwadi worker and Rs.100/- shall be given to the Anganwadi helper.
  1. Kishori Shakti Yojana:
  • The Kishori Yojana, is a scheme to capacitate the adolescent girls in 11 to 18 years of age by training and encouraging them so that they may be able to actively contribute in health and development of their family and community.
  1. Swadhar:
  • With the objective of providing shelter to the women living in unfavorable conditions, the Swadhar Yojana is being conducted. 10 Swadhar houses are being conducted in the state.
  1. Uttarakhand Women Integrated Development Scheme:
  • To reduce the work load of women, make them self-reliant, assistance is provided to self-servicing institutions, government/semi-government organisations, cooperative societies, self-help groups financed by banks, municipal bodies, district/region/gram panchayats, public undertakings, colleges and universities and research and investigation institutes etc. Under this scheme there are several projects of 54 self-servicing organisations of Women Empowerment working at present.
  1. Ujjwala:
  • To bring the women engaged in immoral earnings to the mainstream and to provide them shelter, the “Ujjwala” scheme is being conducted. Ujjwala Griha is being conducted in Champawat district
  1. STEP:
  • STEP scheme is being conducted with the objective of providing training of self-employment to women on traditional enterprises like agriculture, animal husbandry, dairy, matting, horticulture etc. Women are trained with the cooperation of Non-Government Organisations.
  1. Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act:
  • Under Domestic Violence Act, women officers have been given preference to be nominated as Protection officer. In all the districts Non-Governmental Organisations have been selected as service providers. All district hospitals, Community and Primarily Health Centres and A.N.M. sub-centres have been nominated as Medical Facility centre. Protection officers and Service Providers are trained by the Judicial Academy, Bhowali, Nainital.
  1. Nanda Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana:
  • Under this scheme, A fixed deposit of Rs. 5000 is made on the name of new born girl child. The F.D. can be used after the girl completes age of 18 years. At the completion of the F.D. the girl will get around Rs. 23,585 on maturity of F.D.
  1. Working Women Hostel:
  • Working women hostels are established in all districts which are financed by state government. A committee has been set up under Chairmanship of District Magistrate to conduct the workingwomen hostel.
  1. Tilu Rauteli Award:
  • Under this scheme, which is named after Tilu Rauteli, the heroic women of Uttarakhand, one women or an adolescent girl, who has made a special achievement in any particular area, is awarded an amount of Rs. 10,000/- and a citation.
  1. Uttarakhand State Women Commission:
  • To stop the harassment of women, to remove any type of discrimination of women and to bring quality in their life by their overall empowerment, the State Government has constituted the State Women Commission. A representative of minimum one member has been given from each district so that the problem of women is solved rapidly and easily at local level. The commission has one Chairman, two Vice Chairmanship and a Secretary.
  1. Prohibition of Dowry Act:
  • District Program officer has been nominated as – “Dowry Prohibition officer” at district level for implementation of Prohibition of Dowry Act, 1961.
  1. Compulsory Registration of Marriage:
  • The compulsory registration of marriage Act is applied by the state government in compliance of directions of Hon’ble Supreme Court.
  1. Anganwadi Worker Award:
  • An award of amount of Rs. 5,000/- and a citation is awarded to excellent Anganwadi workers. 22 Anganwadi workers have been awarded by State level Anganwadi worker award.

    Women and men of Uttarakhandi origin should be regularly informed about and invited to participate in various welfare programmes.
    This would facilitate better contribution by the desirous persons who intent to work whole heartedly to socially and economically empower the women of Uttarakhand which constitute the most neglected section of our society
    inspite of giving maximum contribution to the economy of the state (Agriculture etc.) apart from otherwise being the backbone of Uttarakhand society.
