L&T to construct floating dock for Indian Navy.

News:

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received Rs 468 crore order for the design and construction of a floating deck for the Indian Navy.

Description:

  •   At L&T’s Warship Design Centre, complete design and engineering of the floating dock (FDN) will be under-taken. The floating dock will be capable of docking naval ships and submarines of up to 8000 T displacement with draughts up to 7 m, during day and night.
  • The floating dock contract for FDN comes to L&T on the back of an order for design and construction of seven offshore patrol vessels for the Indian Coast Guard at Rs 1432 crore.

Benefits:

  • The floating dock is expected to enhance the support infrastructure of the Indian Navy for docking of warships and submarines for repairs and refits.
  • The dock will conform to international norms and will incorporate fully automated Ballast Control System.
