India for implementation of UN arms embargo to check terrorism

• India has voiced concern over the easy access to arms and weapons provided by some states as a deliberate policy, saying such availability facilitates terrorism across the world.
• Calling for the strict implementation of the UN Security Council arms embargo to check the menace of global terrorism, India said the use of such weapons against UN peacekeepers by terrorists remained a concern.
• On the Arms Trade Treaty, aimed to be a global framework of arms transfer controls, India said it had highlighted some of the deficiencies in the treaty that must be addressed.
• Gaps in the treaty, in particular whether it could make any meaningful impact on illicit trafficking in conventional arms and their illicit use by terrorists and unlawful non-state actors, weakened the international community’s ability to address a major source of global instability.
