Drought Prone Areas Program (DPAP): Assistance to Farmers

Assistance to farmers under Drought Prone Areas Program (DPAP) was initiated by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 7th May, 2012. Under this program assistances are provided to farmers in the drought prone areas. The state government has aimed at providing various assistances to farmers so as to avoid the downfall of agricultural production.


  • To provide subsidy to farmers in drought prone areas
  • Development of water harvesting structures at low cost
  • Watershed development works
  • Horticulture plantation, Agro forestry, Fodder development works to avoid drought
  • Construction of dams
  • Desilting of Supply Channels

Targeted Beneficiaries:

  • All farmers are beneficiaries of this program
  • Farmers living in drought prone areas are the main targeted beneficiary

Benefit Type:

  • Farmers will be provided assistance through subsidy
  • They can use the subsidy assisted to acquire all necessary means to enable their production

How to Avail:

Farmers may approach the following-

Chairman / District Collector, Project Officer / Joint Director of Agriculture, District Watershed Development Agency,  Chief Executive Officer, State Level Nodal Agency, Chennai- 32 (at State level)
