Bharati, India’s new Antarctic research station

  • Bharati is the third Indian research station in the Antarctic.
  • Since the Antarctic is not a part of any country, 52 countries have come to an agreement to be able to occupy the Antarctic land, but only for research.
  • The National Centre for Antarctic and Ocean Research (NCAOR), gave the go ahead to BOF Architect for the construction of Bharati in 2009 and it was ready by 2013.
  • Bharati has an insulated and aerodynamic exterior made of metal panels, specially tested in a wind canal to deal with harsh conditions.
